About Lights On Apple Blossom
History of Lights On Apple Blossom
Lights on Apple Blossom officially started in 2020 at the request of our son Tyler. He asked if we could submit an application and picture to the Richmond Tacky Lights. Low and behold... now several years later we have grown into a show many have come to love and enjoy.
Show setup
The number 1 questions we get each season is; how long does it take to put up and take down. Here are some basic stats:
- ON average it takes 10 hours of programming for every minute of music. Using a program called xlights, each prop is designed and placed in a 3-D rendering of the house. Then, each prop and group of lights is individually programmed using the software. After, each prop is made exactly how it was modeled in the software.
- We start setting up in early October and typically takes 3 weeks to get everything up, connected and tested.
- It typically takes 2 weeks to get everything down, repairs made, and put away.
We do it for Charity.......
As a family we take allot of pride in raising money for those in need. Our kids look forward to checking the donations box each night and keep a close accounting on how much we receive. Our daughter takes allot of pride in turning over our donations each season.

About Lights On Apple Blossom
We utilize a freeware software called XLIGHTS, 12 controllers, 3 special effects machines, 30,000 Pixels and 60,000 traditional Christmas lights "Totaling 120,000+ bulbs" to bring your favorite holiday music to life.
Our family
My name is Scott. My wife, Jennifer and I have two children, Tyler and Alyssa. You can often see them outside during the show passing out Candy Canes as our Christmas Elf and Grinch. We start working on our show around June and by July we are in full swing, making props and starting to program the show. Each of our kids comes up with crazy and fun ideas for us to try and incorporate into our show. The arches over the driveway were not only my sons idea, but all of his hard-work as well. He designed, built and drilled each hole for the lights. Some of Alyssa's ideas have been the snow and the candy canes she loves handing out.
Show Schedule
Our show runs from the beginning of October until Halloween for our simplified Halloween show. After that, our main show starts the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs through the first weekend after the 1st of the New Year. Our show runs dusk-10 M-F and dusk-11 Saturday and Sunday. The three nights leading up to Christmas day, it runs till Midnight. Christmas eve it runs until 1AM as many love to stop by on the way home from Christmas Eve services.
Simple Requests
We ask that each of our visitors acknowledge that we could not do this with out the support of our neighbors. In this regard we request that everyone:
- Turn off their headlights while watching the show
- Do not block the driveways of our amazing neighbors
- Please do not walk on our neighbors property
- We know the music is amazing, but please do not jam to it with the windows rolled down.

A missive thanks and shoutout to Cheryl Navarrete and her students at James Bowie High School in Austin Texas. In 2023/2024 the students worked to develop graphics for our show and each submitted their vision for us to review. As a family we provided feedback on each of these submissions and then selected several final submissions to utilize on our website and social media. Thank you to each of the student for the time and effort they put in to creating some amazing graphics. All of the students did an amazing job.
